Hi,

Ive been making changes to my 94, KZN130. Ive put on a snorkel, arb winch bar (winch next when I can afford it!!), OME suspension and 31 10.5 MT tyres. Its going really well ... except the departure angle isnt great at all. My spare tyre is under the car too.

Im thinking about ripping off the rear bumper and moving the exaust somewhere.

Im wondering what my options are?? Does anyone have any idea?? Id love to get a black steel bumper made to match the front with hooks on etc ... but Im guessing this is going to be a mission??

Has anyone changed their wheel from under to the back? Was that a mission??

any ideas would be much appreciated.

Moving spare tyre is easy, just put it on your roof rack

just make sure its tied down.

Rear bumper, well I'm about to do mine with 4mm Steel, bent to shape and bolted on, it will take a while, I wreckon 1.5 days workshop time and $200 for Steel & Bending. So if you were paying for it @ $40/hour you'd be looking at about $600ish. They would need to measure up your truck and may need to keep it for a day. I've measured mine up, just haven't ordered the steel yet as need to find someone to bend it for me.

Exhaust is a different problem, you could bring it out in the middle of the truck (to the side) or vent it up to the roof. If you go the roof option it will need some modifying as needs to be heat shielded etc...

Thanks heaps for that. Am looking into it. Dumb question ... but by law do you actually have to have a bumper on? Thinking might just pull it off in the mean time.

Don't put your spare on the roof. Hard to get up there to start with. Will get caught on scrub. Damage your gutter rails form its mounts and will make your truck tippy.

Best option for spare tyre mount is to use a rear swing arm off another surf. The type that mounts on the rear pillar.

Yes you need a bumper. Must have smooth front and rear of vehicle. Nothing protuding. I.e. Bumper mounts.

As far as bumpers go, nothing should extend beyond the front face of the bumper, including hooks, loops etc. So those hoops he has would need to be on top ideally. I'm looking at putting a hook on the drivers side and a loop on the passenger which will enable me to use a snatch block when winching.... (when I eventually get this 12klb winch) They will be on top of the bumper and will be bolted on using the main mouting points for the bumper. This may not be feasible for you, it depends where the existing holes are..

Also your new bumper should not be more than 50mm different in size (each way) than the OEM one, And you should use the same thickness of steel.

That way you will avoid insurance or cert issues.
