I was out having fun in the rain

today and had to climb out of the area we were playing in using a wet clay track and as I only have A/T S

and an auto 1992 swb vitra I thought that I should use low range to prevent spinning but with my foot just down enough to clear the tread this was a long hill and I had the revs up for bout 2min

when we got to the top I could smell a burning sent like a cluch or transmision

dose any one know why this may happen or how to fix it if this is not right

I did a similair thing in my Nissan, I managed to get the gearbox hot enough that you couldn't touch the gear lever. It didn't do any long-term damage and I think the smell was oil that had leaked previously burning off the gearbox.
I could be wrong but it sounds similair to the above....

Hot mud on the exhaust?
This creates an interesting smell if you've never smelt it before...
