just a quick one im sure everyones done it so should be easy..
Wher on my 93 surf can i mount a tow hook for the rear?
obviosly needs to be strong eg chasis, but im finding it difficult to find a possible place, thinking of getting rid of my rear bumper to help the problem, but will I get a wof without a bumper?
I have a tow bar, obviously can't use the tow ball but maybe somewher the bar mounts??
any advice would be great cheers.

I remove the towbar and install another 7mm thick metal section with the hook for the rear. you just have to remember to do this before you go out, I have once gone 4wd and forgotton and twice gone to get a trailer and had the hook.

I was thinking of welding up a removeable hitch, as far as the bumper goes there is no issues with warants as the plate and light etc is not part of the bumper (I have run mine this way for a long time now)

do you mean you have a removable tow bar? mine is all fixed and bolted in place a really need to get rid of it as i keep getting stuck on it

I have had my towbar modified so it is a piece of box section, with another piece of box section that is removable so I can have both a hook and a towball. Takes 2 seconds to change from one to the other.

who made that up for you? I was really hoping it would be as cheap and simple as bolting on an off the shelf hook

The towbar attaches to the chassis rails where they attach you can also run hooks but these will be under the 4x4, if you want them at the back you will have to get something fabricated up.

well just another thing to do I guess this is why I went for the two bolt towbar thing, and the removeable hitch design of spankmeister is so popular now too.

ok cheers, guess i better get someone to make something up for me, was kind of in a hurry to get some on, i haven't been making many friends when people get stuck and me saying im not keen to snatch them with my tow ball..
But i guess its best to do it once and do it right

there is the option of removing the towball and having a shackle through the eye but that is not always suitable

is that strong enough i can imagine there would be massive pressure on the shackel

i would be more worried about the structure of the towbar than the shackle assuming you have a proper rated shackle of course

Did that on my towbar and bent the towbar getting towed out of a mud hole
So got a rear bumber made up
And yes you need a rear bumper for your WOF

you rear bars are nice something like that would be ideal

called the LTNZ today talked to a mods guy and he couldn't see any reason why it was illegal not to have a rear bumper so long as i still had mud gards

after reading through some of the older threads about tow hooks i can see why some people are staying well away from this subject, have to laugh when you look back and see how wound up people get

so do you need bumpers front and/or rear for a WOF?

according to the guy i talked to you only need a front bumper can remover the rear so long as you still have mud gaurds but not to sure what the wof guys would say
