anyone got a spare alternator?

mine no longer charges my batt.
is it best to rebuld it or get a second hand one.

I've had that problem a few times... one rebuild and one second hand... the second hand one has lasted longer than the rebuild so far!

I now have a spare and whenever the mounted one gives up I fit the other one and rebuild the stuffed one. Always replace the brushes no matter how good they look!

its a 2.8 tdi
i now unsure if its the thing at faut.
al i can tell you is that it just goes flat some times. and ill chargeit up and can drive for a coulpe days, the flat again. in this time the batery and img bekt light come on and of (n patern)
is there an easy test to diognose the fault?
any help would be great.
