Makeing" Hubs" the weakest link

Post by oldblue »

Hi, anyone thought about makeing the Freewheeling hubs the weakest link by reduceing the number of splines on the inside of the clutch [dog ]?
My be easier to replace than CV axles.
As i see it, how would you know how many splines to remove?]

mhm not a bad thort there,in terms of how many teeth to remove, well, guess that would be a guess n check id say, maybe start with 1 outa 3,then maybe 1 outa 2,could be worth investigating and like u say, hell of alot easyr to replace from a 'on site' point of view, just the question of what would the hub ring do to the cv spline when it did let go??

The inside of this dog do's not fit on the CV axle, but engauges into the part that surports the axle, so there would be no damage to the axle, or the main hub body.
The dog slides in & out, to enguage or disenguage.

Looks like warn have removed about 2/3 of the inside splines, lowering from 80,000 inch lbs down to 46,000 inch lbs. before they shear.
