Hey people, it seems to be that most cars, inc hilux, landcruisers, prados, and possible other brands, have vents in the rear "c" pillar area, i guess to allow air pressure release when ya open and close doors.

but it also allows water to gush in when ya crossin deep water

Has any one addressed this problem or do ya just have to put up with it?

One idea i have had was to rig a vent above the rear window and block up the lower ones

Any ideas

like you say the vents are there to allow for air pressure release for opening and closing the doors and also for releasing the pressure in the cabin when your heater or a/c is running in --> mode rather than recirc mode,make sense? moving them would be an easy option,even maybe a roof vent??i dunno anythings possible

Depends how cheap you are, a can of space invader and a drill would be a very cheap solution

Surely they have a one way rubber valve thinging to stop water from going in??

Nah thats your doors still full of water after that bottomless bog you found at terawhiti last weekend

Its just a mesh filter, on the doors check the drains in the bottom of them occasionally, if its full of mud poke a screwdriver up them and watch the water pis5 out

What about a snorkel?

I haven't had the problem my self but a mates lux hit an obstical while in a river, forcing him to stop and water gushed in, will probable not bother, just air out the carpet if it becomes a pool!!!

you could take the vents out and weld the holes up(not a major job), but problem is finding a high place to put it if you want it back in??

Cut the roof off... then you don't need the vents

WTF????? If you are doing crossings deep enough to worry about water coming in the C pillar vents, why the f**k do you have carpet in it???
Bang in a bilge pump and self bailing thingies in the floor and make sur the drain holes in the doors and gaurds are clear.

If your deep enough to have water coming in the air vents it won't be for long,--------- you will be floating , but not for long, it will fill with water and SINK.

thats exactly why the 40's have the kick panels up front in the foot well areas fitzy :thumleft: ... get the big pigs down in the water to hopefully get some traction..
