It will be the sender itself, they are a crap design. It's down on the right hand side of the motor just in front of the oil filters. Wiring comes up and joins and clips on to a fitting attached to the intake manifold. Mine clapped out totally and I bought a new one from Nissan, was around $160 from memory.
Cheers, Jeff.

If you were playing in water at the time it came on, then its just that the sender unit got wet. Will take a few days to dry out and then back to normal...until you play in water the next time.
New one from Nissan are about $150 and they have a breathable membrane on them to prevent this occuring.

Mine did it a few times. Still does after water. I bough an afterwarket one (Only coz I couldnt get one out of Nissan on a saturday as they dont sell parts on a sat)
That didnt prove all that reliable either, so I pulled my original one apart and well, it was already dry (had been a month maybe)
Since then, when ever it happens, I either just pull the boot off the back, and rive round for a few days with it off, and it dries out, or I pull the sender off (its hand tight now) and hang it over fire, or hot water cylinder.
I have also installed an after market gauge, just to keep my mind at ease)

Mines just in behind the starter motor. But I have the 2.8 engine. There is 2 wres comng out, and also a rubber vent hose. All I did was pop it off and pull it back a little.

As above, just towards the front of the engine from the oil filters.
