Almost a 4x4, can i enter Nationals with this.um truck

Hiya,
just joined up, been keen on getting involved for a while in the whole 4wd scene and lately been scouring the country looking for a suzzie or somthing similiar, would love to have one of thease d class rigs for sale on TM parked in my garage but prob $$$$ and 3 hungry kids will mean not right now.

Anyway heard nats start in welly in october and had a crazy idea , i do own a Polaris Ranger at the moment, i know its not really a 4wd truck
but it is 4wd has decent suspension and i,ve taken it some nutty places.
thought it would be good for crowd entertainment if nothing else
Being not sure if it was even allowed i,ve emailed varoius links for a copy of the rules and haven,t had a reply

I guess what i,m asking if i made the roll cage stronger, put 30 inch tires on it (yes they are avail 30/12-12) , belts etc etc would i be allowed to enter and if so
a,b,c, or d class.
Bet some of the d class guys would love it when a 500cc stock vechile
cleaned a section............. :)
Since i,ve been looking on here and other websites for rules/regs why doesn,t someone copy them and post them up on this site?
seem a lot of other people want copy too.

by the way, you're not allowed to stop in a hazard, so that guy wouldn't of got far at all.

people have talked about building quad based trials trucks before but they've never been seen.

some guys have tried rotors, but they sucked and one guy put an outboard motor in his suzuki with a belt drive system but that sucked too.

you can buy a copy of the rules for $20 and read up.
everyone likes to see new stuff, so give it a go.

Surely that is a piss take! - dont think I would have even slowed down for that log.

Probabily why my truck is stuck in the garage

ok, that surprises me, maybe a bad idea and i keep looking for something bit more tradational

Surely not another stock vechile that could climb a log like that though?
based on height of the ranger it must be nealry a metre high.?

I,m only going on what limited experiannce i have, up old thompsons track
we have been over and back and passed real "looking" 4x4,s with winches and big simmex,s working hard.

guess weight comes into it, some too, guy in vid swung it over the log mostly using his bodyweight swaying back and forth, which is why i posted it

still wonder if another few inches ground clearance and 30 inch tyres would see it at least be competative in A class.
how about this :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bo3xsy6aks

never mind, Hey thats why i asked for your guys thoughts, thanks for input

found couple more vids

thanks for reply,s

i emailed a few people about getting a copy of rules, mostly got forwarded other email addresses, last one was Jude Weatherly at info@nzebseilers.co.nz but email came back.
just thought one of u guys could say yeigh or neigh

Either its a stupid ####### idea or not, i know it would eat any std vechile
and totally condifent it would go more places then mildly modded suzuki.s.

they run 9 inches indpendant suspension travel front and rear standard,11 inches ground clearance, electric diff lockers front and rear and prob weigh half of what a suzuki does. fuel injected and low range cvt trans.

with 30 inch grunty ATV tires (25inch std) it would gain some height, and i could machine new pulley for cvt to lower gearing plus cut guards for clearance.
I,m talking about chopping up a 17k brand new vechile here and i am totally seroius.

wonder if in the trials rulebook does it state "must run a conventional production car engine" if so that could rule out ranger

tpft wrote:wonder if in the trials rulebook does it state "must run a conventional production car engine" if so that could rule out ranger

but the ranger is still a production car/quad/truck with a production engine

i don't see what the problem would be
unless it was homemade with various bits and pieces used of shit load of brands

even then, if it was homemade with varoius bits of many brands i suppose
becuase that desribes every d class trials rig there is?

Will never be a promblem if it sucks, only if it actually beat somebody  i,ll keep workin on copy of rules.

other thing i want to check on is tyres, this is a 30 inch ITP tire , biggest atv tire in the world , thoose lugs are 1.5 inches deep, not avail in nz

(standard it comes 25x10x12) this looks a little more chunky then any simmex i,ve ever seen

Image
I would have thought there would be a rule somwhere about tyres too
distannce of knobs etc etc

The rule book says something about agricultural tyres are not permitted so I guess that would include those ones :(

Don't mean to change the subject. But I own a BRP Outlander and run ITP 26X12-12's on the rear. I was going to put them on the front but I was told that the "visco locking system" (on the front, locking the diff) wouldn't kick in as well, as the larger diameter reduced the clutch pressure. I wonder how that quad on the right goes when you want the front locked up.

HI,
im a can am dealer , Have seen a vid of a renegade (Same diff) running 29.5,s going threw a bog, seemed to be hooking up just fine.

with the viscous diff, wheel slips like 1 or two turns (on rollers)
done threw oil pressure not clutchs
may take a little longer for the slippin wheel to hook up with bigger rubber
but with 26,s i,d say it would be hardly noticable and plus bigger wheel is going to climb over the obstacle better anyway.

differance between a wornout tire and a new one is going to be a inch

650 or 800?

Cool. Thanks for the info. "650 or 800?" 800's. I own a Renegade as well.

All vehicles MUST NOT HAVE the following
(f) Agricultural tyres: An agricultural tyre is defined as any tyre, not legal for road use or speed rated for less than 30 Kph, having the clearance area exceeding 58% of tread area at 6psi
