Whos got a Peugeot engined suzuki ?

Post by Rotazuk »

Hi
Surely someone on here has a diesel grand vitara . What side of the vehicle is the oil filter on and front or rear of the engine .
I looked at a grand vitara today and need to work out which engine it has , pretty sure it has the mazda but want to check . And before you ask I could not lift the bonnet as it was on the side of the road , if its the peugeot engine I will look into it furthere etc .

Cheers

Filter is in the right hand side looking from the front, to get to it you unbolt the yellow thingy and contort your arm somehow to get to it. The Suzuki plate doesnt say the engine type, RF is Mazda, PSA is Pug, look at the year mine I know is an early import demo model thingy, and was registered Nov 2000, the NZ4wd mag reviewed it (my zuk appears on the front cover and was tested June 2001), from what I have seen Suzuki run out the model and then roll out the new petrol and then roll out the diesel model later. look at the Rego sticker it will tell you the first reg date.

The pug ones are built for the Euro market and have a rear door handle and a factory fog light (light is in the top right rear, the switch is on the right of the steering wheel).

From what I have heard the 2001-2002 PSA's have been known for engine computer failures, the fault is the motor won't start, other than that they seem ok other than a bit pricey on parts, the diffs are STEEL  , Have also heard that the RF (Mazda) models have been known for head cracking issues.

There was a guy offering one on TM recently with a cracked head can find it again if you want....

Yell if you want more info

If a psa oil filter is on the right looking from the font it is on the other side to a mazda one . They are on the drivers side at the back of the engine and will make the one I looked at a mazda for sure then .
O-well back to the drawing board . maybe have to put an intercooler on mine and wind up the boost , see how long it lasts :)

sounds like a Mazda one......I hardly ever see the Pugeot ones on TM for sale, let alone ones being wrecked.....

What about a 1.9TD out of a Gen III one (the current model), if there is one at a wrecker? otherwise a 2.7 or something out of a ssanyong.....
