Was only small numbers! Just before I left home I grabbed hilux-happy's number and text him just after 11am, ended up just being the two of us (his mate didn't get).
No big dramas but I got stuck in one of the first big holes we went into (not enough clearance for the underwater ruts). Took on some water but not as much as it's had in the past.
Up further we found a surf in a hole so spent some time recovering them and helping to get him running again.
The engine died when he went in and there was water in the engine but after some effort it seemed to be running ok when we left them. Went on up to the pylons and I took of out to head home because had a friend who needed to get traveling south.
When we got to the Ashley we decided we had enough time to do a short section there from the road bridge to the village. Just as I turned off the road I saw a Civic backing out of the first ruts. He stopped and I was about to go round him but he comes up to me and working between every second word beginning with F and a thick European accent I figured that he was looking for help to pull some vehicle out of the water some where so he jumps in the civic and I follow him along the tracks and found what he was talking about.
Amidst a flurry of talk and apologies from the girlfriend for 'indecent exposure' (pants must of got wet so was in 'er knickers and the driver was in his gruts at times - the mum was dry and the chap with the forgein accent was busy giving suggestions) we figured they had been driving around in the murky water and as they turned to come out they got too close to a hidden deep part (dug out by digger for swimming hole) and lost the back end in it. Some one had apparently tried to help but then just turned and disappeared much to their disgust.
I tried pulling him but was on real loose shingle, every time I tugged it came up a bit but the back end was still bobbing up and down and I just churned shingle. So I decided to winch. As it was I was on hand brake and standing on the brakes and still getting pulled down until it built up a pile of shingle in front of the wheels and we opened the door to let the Hyundai drain as it came out.
Got them out and it was totally wet even including the back section of the ceiling. The engine intake was wet so we pulled the spark plugs out and turned it over and I got wet from the water hitting the underside of the bonnet and straight out at me standing a meter or so from the vehicle. It didn't have any spark and the father had turned up with a large truck so I towed him along the river bed to the truck and they towed it away. - All in a day's play. ( I was meant to be working this afternoon but it didn't work out
