Lokka install

Post by Petemcc »

Thought I would put this up for people looking at inatalling lokkas themselves.

Wopass had always said that it was really easy and after putting some in my surf i wasnt convinced. On the surf (and hilux) diffs you have to take the side bearings off your diff head and take the crown gear off to get the spider and side gears out to install the lokka.

It can be dificult to get the bearings back how they came out and as i found if they arent set up properly you can quite easily stuff a diff due to the wrong play between the pinion and the crown.

However yesterday I gave a m8 (thrupp) a hand to put one in his 70 series cruiser and now i know what Wopass was on about! Easy as pie you can get the spiders out and lokka in without touching the bearings or crown gear.

Well thats my experiences, Im not the most mechanically minded person and im sure with the right gear you can set up the bearings quite easliy but i ended up paying someone to do the bearing set up.

Anybody got anything to add? What are other trucks like?

Yeah I did the surfs ones myself and they are exactly as you said pete, to get around this you mark everything, then measure with a pair of digital vernea the exact distance the caps on each end are in by, that way on reasembly you have the same clearance. The key is the digital vernea, forget those old fashioned line ones where you go cross eyed looking at the dam things any longer than 5 seconds :shaking2:
