Another question for you clever people that have been there and done that ...

I am leaking power steering fluid from my steering box.
The plan is to pull it apart on the weekend and see what is going on.

My concern is that I will then have to have the truck off the road for a few days while I chase around getting replacement seals.

So the questions are ...
Does anyone know what the seal sizes are ??
Are they something special ??
Are there any tricks to pulling them out /putting them back ??

Hey man, the only seal I have seen leaking is the top one where the steering column shaft goes in, I have done a couple of Isuzu's, and the best way is in place, but get an original Isuzu seal, I learnt from experience that aftermarket seals don't work, I ended up doing the same vehicle three times (two aftermarket, then 1 original) before I got it right
OK it might have been more than three times cos I was stubborn and tried to get the $5.00 aftermarket seal to work

Ended up being a silly idea as the original Isuzu ones are not that expensive

I will flick you a PM later with the instructions, but in the mean time you need seal Isuzu part number : 8-97081746-0

I got mine cheap from them, but should be under $25.00, and believe me not worth the hassle of trying the cheap seal option

I had this prob with my terrano. Not sure what was leaking. there was oil ever where and it failed a wof cause of this and the fluid level was down.

Went to BNT to get a seal kit with a rebuild in mind, walked out with a bottle of Lucas power steer stop leak.

Its a thick oil type stuff and is granteed to work.

So far so good. hasnt altered the workings and seems to have stopped the leak. cost about $20 i think for 1 litre. (smallest they do, aimed at trucks)

How long have you had this in your truck ??

About 6 months. Hasnt done many kays though. prob about 2500-3000.

No sign of any more leaks. had to keep topping up resiviour for a few days (each time i drove it) 3-4 times i suppose.

Generally these stop leak additives are not good for the long term health of your system (wherever used). If they are capable of plugging a leak, then are capable of plugging other internal passages. Do it properly the first time, do the seal (fix the cause, not the symptom). This has been my experience so far.

Dont let it leak to long or it will do the internals i had to replace hole box wat a mission i never seen nuts get so angry

I had what I thought was a leak in my 70 series steering box - but when cleaned everything up to make sure it turns out it was a loose hose connection to the fluid reservoir and the fluid was running down the hose and all over the power steering box. Tightened the clip and all good - may be you will be as lucky ?

Tried to get genuine seal and got a complete set ...

Is it worth pulling the box out and giving it a birthday ??

Is it a job I can do my self ??

What issues are that I might come up against ??

I can get you the part number for just the top seal if you want it, otherwise if you want to continue with a whole kit I would get the box out, and take it in to a specialist.

I haven't done one myself, but from what I've heard, they can be a bit of a nightmare
Just give me a shout if you want the part number, would be a whole lot cheaper than the whole kit was, and the rest of the box very rarely gives any trouble.

Just realised after going back through the earlier posts I had already gave the part number, seems a bit strange they couldn't get it? or did you just decide on a complete kit
