Hey All,

Does anyone have an idea how to get the engine management l light to turn off in the new hilux's? I may or may not have driven with the speedo unplugged.......and under load the orange engine management light comes on. In my 2006 Hilux if you plugged the speedo bacjk in the light goes off.......or if you turn the key on and off.........but in the latest one......it doesn't. The problem I have is ...this now voids the warranty if I cannot get it off before the next service, as it's pretty obvious what i have been doing.

Any help would be apprecaited

I it is controlled by the computer now and has to be reset by Toyota, also the computer keep's a log of all errors so they probibly saw what you were doing before too, there is a manual reset for the computer but it will reset everything, including the learned fuel economy and date's in the computer, this would look worse and I don't know how to do it but the University of canterbury had to do it to one of their trucks to get it to the service center (was in limp home mode in Central Otago).

You can use something like this http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_GDEOBD.html not sure if it will work for you depends what the error is there is also PC software but not sure if it will reset the codes not cheap buying the miles may be a better option.

It will teach you for cheating tho.

ha ha its easily reset but only by toyota,just sets a code for no or wrong speedo input,dont try any backyard tricks ,it will only backfire

go in to otago polytec A block ask to talk to mike hes a tuotor there then tell him you flick im $20 to turn it off he always wants to play with the new computer toys id do it for ya if i was still there but yeah

ha $20 i`ll tell ya for free,just pull the "ecd" fuse for 1 min or disconnect the battery but then you need to re-enter the radio code and set the clock,how backdoor is that going to a tutor ,problem with tutors is that they think they no "everything!"

Adogg that only clears the check light but does not clear the error from the computer! the log has to be manualy cleared or a serious error reported (crawl home engaged) needing the 30 lines these error's cannot be cleared with a power outage, and have to be purdes with software.

The toyota is still under warranty so they will look at this and see the oil changes are out of specification and a lot of other stuff giving toyota a get out of jail free card if anything goes wrong, but it is a Toyota so nothing goes wrong anyway.

righto, I work for a Toyota dealer actually,and yes it will log it in the internal memory,but its not really an issue,those computers have a 2 trip fault function in them so if the fault is there for more than 2 cycles of the ignition it will bring up the check engine light otherwise if its not it wont light up,or go in to limp mode like the ecu`s of old,and seriously if i was doing a service and just so happened to check for codes( which only happens when there is a customer complaint or fault) a code in there is hardly worth making fuss about!! and tour right nothing would happen anyways we got some customers that overun there service schedule buy 10k it makes me cringe we had one case last year were a corolla had been driven from new for 2 years with no oil changes,the engine expired at 80,000ks!!!!! 80k on the original oil!!!! bloody amazing but i dont recommend it,the current hilux 1kd engine has been round since 99` overseas,and the service sched for a euro one is 15k oil change intervals ,something to do with our crap diesel!!!
