ashley river sat 17th afternoon play.

i wanna try out the new safari and aint keen to stuff it down the waimak in the silt. so its off to the ashley to explore. as i have never been there before, i dont know where to go, but keen to have a look around. want to be there around midday. i will be at ashley river bridge state hwy 1 north side on left,and head down towards river i will be there about 11.30 leaving at 12. i will proberly head upstream.

me be in swb safari in pic.


dont know the conditions so will be a bit of exploing and searching for a good track. dont know about deep water or mud but could be an issue :D anyone with knowlage of the river is more than welcome to show us the way.

but all in all it was a great afternoon and we will do this again for sure cheers azza and swaney for putting up with me taking on things that ment i was getting towed or winching out of imposiable holes. i now know my trucks capabilitys and appriciate the help.

A mate and i did those tracks a few times last winter. Bloody great fun in the wet bro.
Be keen to visit them again if you do another trip up there :wink:

yeh i have been playing down the waimak and never been to the ashley before so i plan to come back again. the tracks were a blast and everyone had a great day out there so there should be another trip next weekend so keep watching this site. i will post something up by wenesday. the more the better. cheers

Nice Pics! Though they don't nearly do justice on some of the really knarly bits.... Next time it might have to be video :shock:

there must be 2 ashley rivers :!: :!: because ive never needed to winch up the ashley near me :shock: :shock: mind i do drive a toyota 8) 8) 8)

Pretty sure there is only 1 Ashley River in canterbury... :shock: but then again we were in the muddy spots and not driving up along the top of the stop banks hiriklux :wink: lol

yeh azza, to right. as i have owned a toyota i can say i had more fun today than i ever did in the surf and as for using the winch, well what can i say other than "if your not getting stuck, your not trying hard enough"

Mind you Rik, your truck is pretty standard, and you drive it like a pussy. So I guess you would count driving along the stop banks as some serious 4x4ing :wink: :lol: :lol: :lol:

hilux happy there is a plate on the winch mount for your hook to go in when your not using it

not a problem took me awhile to find that out as I 'm the only one i my club with a pto nissan , when i first used in front of the main guys heard ' thats a fast winch'

Nice looking Safari there cobber, you have done well. It just needs some Westcoast pinstripping now :wink: . Looking at the photos I noticed that there was no dampner over the winch cable. Invest in one or just use a hessian bag with a couple of big nails to go through the hessain when you drape it over. It is alot cheaper then loosing your head.

yes good point al. i was thinking about getting some 12mm Amsteel Blue Winch Rope as it just falls to the groung if it snaps. just gotta find a good source to buy fromin chch. will give rick a call today to sort it out.

on another note we were looking at doing another trip up the northan side of the ashley on sunday if you keen to organise another trip like the one i missed out on. all good ifg not. im sure azza and swaney will be keen to go. i am going to be in timaru till wenesday arvo as i have a couple of family matter to attent to down there, so i wont be online till i get home wenesday arvo.
