fuel injection

Ok I have a 16 valve mtr (sorry I dont know the right words) at the back of the throtal body there is a black plastic thing ?? this has a plug going to it there is another plug going to something below this with two wires now my engine idles to high but when I remove this (2 pin)plug it runs like a dreem my question is "what is this plug for" & "do I need this conected"

The black plastic thing in the throttle position sensor , does the obvious , tells the ecu how far up it you have your foot etc .

Without a pic its hard to say as there are two different 16v manifolds but on mine you loosely describe the air idle valve . Its like a choke , alows more air in etc so the ecu gives more fuel and a higher idle , it comes on on things like a/c on etc .

Thats not explained to well , anyway sounds like its stuck open . I expect it will run ok with it off but you may find it stalls out here and there when it would normally open .
