has anybody done anything today
or are they like me trying to stay out of the rain
i have plans though and if it isn't quite so wet tomorrow i will make a start at removing the old spring perches from the back of my mudcedes and get it all ready so one of the good buggers on this site can stop by and weld it in properly for me cause my welding sucks arse

and don't worry i'll be taking pics

as we can see at the left of your post. You have been a busy boy, but sorry dude it still won't beat the titty avatars. I have been looking at changing mine to something similar, but now that 3 or more of you have done it, I see it as non-essential now, and as this is a 4wd forum, I have decided to keep my avatar 4wd based.

p.s. can anyone please explain to me why it is beautiful and sunny from mon-fri, and then shite over the weekend and back to sunny on mon again

must be just the crappy north island thats wet cause it dry down here

May be we need to change our weekends to start on Mondays.... I need to get a couple of things done and it has been pouring down all day long. I don't have a covered garage, so have to wait for a clear day (or at least relatively clear day). I got new adjustable control arms for the rear.

been a good day down here in the south , not that i have been able to do anything worth while.

Got a bit more on the rear bar done today. welds are strong enough but aren't super pretty (kept getting in my own light). Just need to put the diagonal brace in now and then do the other side. Sand blasting and a good coat of paint will come after a test

they look better than my attempts at welding

i got a W O F on the saf , they vtnz didn't notice the new bullbar and sliders , sweet

Just finished installing my new rear suspension lift
No more saggy butt surf
3 and a half inch lift

Will post pics once i figgure out how

I put some new fan and power steer belts in the Isuzu, and did a few more mods to move closer to finishing my electric fan mod.

Had this put in the radiator on Thursday.




The thermoswitch that is, not the big gouge in the radiator, that was what prompted the electric fan project!

Also wired up the switch in the centre console.




It's the smaller closest switch.

This is how the fan will mount when I sort out the mounting bars for it, but in the meantime it has gone back in with the old viscous fan cos I need the truck next week.

The switch fits right in.

Have you fitted a flasher to the lamp circuit ?? or are you turning it on and off ??

I fitted a flasher unit to it, tucked under the centre console box

I have run all the wiring into the engine bay, just gotta mount and wire the relay and sort the wiring between relay and fan.

Just gotta get a waterproof plug to connect the loom I am building, between relay and fan/switch.

Should look good when finished.

Bit of a slow start today after late one last night, but still managed to completely destroy the wreck

As anyone who has a lux will know, you can't unbolt inner and outer front gaurds, so the grinder was employed to do some judicious cutting.

Alec, what model vehicle did the thermoswitch come from ?, where is it fitted in this vehicle and what temperature does it operate at ?.
The reason I ask is, the fan needs to be switched on early in the heat cycle and this is usually done by having the switch in the top tank near the top hose. If you don't get your fan working before the heat gets to hot you will never pull the temperature down.

took the Wrangler up thommos (finally). Rapt with the way it went n the trail.... and Low box is FFFAAARRRKKKing awesome, 1st and 2nd do their own thing and 3rd needs a teeny weeny bit of gas. Thoroughly happy with the performance.

Dixie and i decided last minute to head up for a play..... we kinda ran into Wopass and DB... not that we knew they were there, but lucky enough to communicate during the day (well, lucky for them anyway) but theyll fill everyone in on the happenings im sure

Farking wet and farking slippery up there, but the AT's did the job for me. Dixie will have pics to follow.

Hey Smokey, the advice I got from the good buggers at Hornby radiators, was that this is the best spot for the switch mounting.

They were the ones who soldered it it for me.

It came out of a 1988-89 Mitsi Galant, and was mounted in the bottom of that radiator.

I understand the switch to be a 82 deg but am yet to confirm that.

My understanding is they are mounted at the bottom of the radiator, so they assist in cooling if the radiator cant keep up with the requirements.

But will stand corrected if I'm off the mark.

I'm still on the old fan, am replacing the thermostat tomorrow, so I will check with my radiator guru on Monday, to make sure I have got it right.

also what did the fan come off of originally?most jap electric fans are designed to only cool at a minimum the engine they came off,sad but true

No shit required. I wasnt down there so i cant give an informed opinion. But ill tell ya what i know.

They did the loop road, and from what i can gather it was farking hard going, felled trees etc. DB had some winch issues i believe, and Wopass spat a belt.... i left Dixie up in the bush with them, and met Sarahs bro at teAroha who had a belt for Wopass. I took him back up as far as the first crossroads where we met up with Dixie again and they went back up. It was getting too ugly for me, and i would have been no use anyway, so i bailed out. If Dix was having problems getting Down to me, with three lockers, then i was going to be buggered trying to go any further anyway.
The amount of water that was coming down the main track was phenominal, i can only imagine what the loop was like. I bailed at 7, they were out about an hour ago (9).

oh... and i forgot to mention.... met "tintin" today too. he was coming down on his bike as we were heading up. He saw the ORE sticker and stopped to say hi.....

Nice to meet you Tintin (now we know where to go when we're wet and want a hot coffee!!!! )

Nuthin exciting really, there were a few fallen trees on the track, so we shagged around for a few hours in total moving them untill one got the better of bens winch and broke a shear pin. After fixing that, we got creative and winched ourselves up a bank, slid accross, and then lowered our selves back down with the winches onto the track on the other side of the tree. All in a days work

Then the cruiser decided to spit the fan belt.

Got lucky and the belt was largly undamaged. It did it again and the belt was toast. Spent a while trying to make something that would work out what we had with us (rope, tape, zip ties etc).

Lucky for us, XJ and dixie were out for a play, so we roped those guys in and got a new belt from hamilton.

Once we knew a belt was on its way, i decided to go solo and get the 50 out onto the main track as it was now dark, alowing ben a clear run when the belt showed up. An hour of sitting in bogs on our side, mud gushing inside, engine over heating, winch working its ring off, engine pulling 9000rpm, pooring rain, dragging along banks, checking depth of bogs with sticks in the pooring rain, more over heating, more winching, more reving, more showering the inside with mud we finally made it out to the main track. Was pretty intense

(BTW, Sarahs officially the winch bitch after tonights massive effort!!)

We found some where sheltered to park and set the tarp up over the 50 and tried to dry ourselfves out, clean mud of our faces, get some of the water/mud out of the floor pans and clean the windscreen inside and out while we for another hour or so for ben to drag the cruiser out.

We regrouped and headed back out another hour or so down to where the my Safari and trailer where waiting.

The best part is the 50 still drove onto the trailer at the end of the day, sure its not running quite aswell (alot of mud in the intake ) but it still counts right?? ITs been its hardest test so far and besides a couple of small tows when the ruts got the better of it, it didn't miss a beat all day, and the winch was amazing. It saved my ass really, best $150 i'ver ever spent

All the same, we didn't get home untill 11:00pm.

it would be easier to carry spare belts.

Our club has a rule that you must carry spare belts and hoses, just in case. Makes sense really.

Oh well now you know. Reading that has turned me off thommos more than I was before. I might wait till its been fine for weeks before I go there.
