From October 1 2007, all Franklin District beaches (excluding the existing 20 kph limit within the 1km zone at Karioitahi Beach) will have a speed limit of 50 kilometres an hour (that will apply to land yachts too!).

So will yachts have to have speedos fitted in them now? I can understand the reason for the speed limit but surely it seems somewhat extreme... next they will have speed cameras pointed on casual joggers to make sure they are running within the required limits

Yes it seems crazy to include land yachts but the Council have gone to lengths to explain that it's not them but the transport regulations that define a vehicle and that they are bound by those!
Our laws seem to always have some unintended side effects....maybe we just have too many laws!

Probably because we have too many law makers (i.e. MPs).

Probibly because ACC and OSH wont let us take personal responsability and will prosecute someone (landowner, equipment manufacturer, organiser or designer) sad to say a person was in a worse situation after OSH saw and ordered changes to work equipment and was more injured as a result to said changes.

Funny they told us to put it back to how it was now and he has the injury for the rest of his life. He thought the machine was made safer (things were hidden) so took a stupid risk, previously he was responsable for his own saftey and would not have done it that way.

Good old Franklin District Council - obviousely too many people with not enough to do - however there are a lot of hoons on that beach.

Interesting that they fudge around the legal unformed road that runs along most of the property boundaries and the beach - dopey clowns think that passing a bylaw about dunes will overide the Local Government Act :D

A woman was killed in the UK by a Class 3 land yacht - she walked past the warning sign with her 2 kids into the race area - the axle severed her legs - threw her high into the sail and back to the ground. Missed the kids. Having 20 years experience racing Land Yachts all over the NZ and the US - you don't get a lot of time to react and you do tend to get bouncey tunnel vision.

Even my old Class5 would make a mess of you
