5M Supra timing belt

Post by Smurf »

I rang repco today, yeah I know but they were the only ones open.
They told me there are two different length timing belts for the 5M??(Not that they had either in stock)
Can anyone tell me if this is correct??
I need to replace mine as it has been cooked by a little bit of oil leaking out the cam seals.

I seem to recall thats right... why do you doubt them?

Make sure you do the tensioner and idler while you're there...

there was also a sohc 5m. Make shure you do the cam seals at the same time. should only cost about $10 each. the belt its self is easy to do. only took me half an hour when I did mine not long ago. Belt only cost me $20 to.

Me, Doubt Repco?? Hell Yes. Especially with the weekend staff we have to endure!! Tensioner and idler are on the list too.
I'll pull out the belt tomorrow and measure it up then.
Thanks Steve

Replaced cam seals today ($3.50 each), haven't put the front of the motor back together yet. Was wanting to know the story behind the timing belt first.
Also have new crank seal to fit when I replace the belt.

Hey it may be worth comparing repco prices with Toyota genuine

The belt should cost ya 45 +GST
Tensioners and idlers either $50 or $55
If it yas a Hydralic tensoiner, Gen would also cost only $55 +gst

cheers
Dave

1- 5M-EU (this is the short 1)
2-5M-GEU 1981-82 september jp or dec NZ new(this one has square lugs is weak & needs done every 50,000k to be on the safe side)
3-5M-GEU 1982-85 (round lugs good for 80-100,000k)
Nitrous is like a hot chick with a STD..... you know you wanna hit it, but you are afraid of the consequences.....

You'd be right about that DBW.
but GST is a cost to me so I put it in.
I would have gone for Toyota parts too but they didn't have them in stock and would have been a weeks wait for them to get them in apparently

Have replaced all the front seals, timing belt, plugs, cap, leads, hopefully not much more needs to be replaced at the moment.
