Hi,
Wondering if anyone can tell me what sort of auto trans fluid to use in a 91 Terrano TD27 auto? The dealer where I got the service kit suggested Dextron III but wasn't sure. I'm keen to confirm before I shell out for the wrong sort.

And......... have fun filling it too, through that aquardly placed dip stick tube between the fire wall and engine.

I had a hell of a time when I topped mine up once after some dip shit undid the wrong bung when doin a oil change in a hurry.

I dont like to say who this was in fear of incriminating myself.
There may well be a bung on top of the tranny, but it is too much hassle for me to have to remove all sorts of console housing bits to get to it.

Thanks. All in good nick there. Just had the radiator out to put in a new water pump, so had a good look at the hoses while I was at it. I know what you mean though. I've seen the results of a hose burst - messy!
Cheers.

Hi Kiwipete,
Ha ha! Easy done.
I've got just the thing for filling it. 5L bottle with a plastic tube fitted to the top. There is a small hole in the bottom of the bottle to let air in when it is inverted, which I cover with tape when filling. The tube fits down the dipstick hole and gravity feeds the tranny. It's worked a treat when I've used it before on other vehicles. Takes about 20 min. Time for a cuppa before you have to tidy up the tools!

Similar to my method.
Did you have any issues replacing the water pump? Have a mate at work who had to do this recently too. Hope its not a common issue.

No issues with the pump. Very straightforward once the radiator was out. Took about an hour I guess. Something I found out is that there are a couple of different pumps fitted on these. Apparently the distance between the pump flange and the pulley can be different and also the fan mounting bolts. Maybe different between manual and auto models but I'm not sure. I don't think there are any problems with the pumps wearing out early. This one's done 200,000 Ks and is the original as I've had the vehicle since 35,000 and this is the first time it's been changed.
