Hi all. Ive been a fan of offroading for some time now and have come across this rather nice looking '73 Rangie on Trademe http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/auct ... permanent= and was wondering for those out there with the experience and knowledge:
- Is the 2.8 Isuzu engine a good alternative to run in a Range Rover as this one?
- Any things I should be looking out for when looking at a Range Rover?
- Would it be a suitable 4x4 for a beginner to learn the ropes?

Cheers!

Hi Matt,

Range Rovers are very capable 4wd's. A standard classic rangie will go alot of places. Definitely a great vehicle to start out with. Get some instruction in how to use it (clubs, other 4wders), slowely add things to it and you will be towing people out more than the other way around all with a big smile  I cant comment on the engine itself but it will give you worry free water crossings unless you drown the air intake. (snorkel is good insurance and stress relief).

There are a few rangie owners on here who I'm sure could tell you the benifits of owning one and I'm sure there are some disadvantages as well.
