brakes sticking... i think.

Post by fish »

hi i have a 89 bighorn, after coming down a heavily corrugated track (it was steep too so the brakes were used a lot) there has been a constant ssqueel coming from the left rear. the noise goes away when braking, ive had the wheel off and it looks like the brake pads are touching the disk,
any clues as to why this would happen, or how to fix.
(i have basic tools and want to do myself.)
cheers. :D

One of each pair of pads on mine have the metal strip on them that squeals when the pads wear down they contact the disc when you put your foot on the break and squeals
Then as the pad wears down more the strip contacts most of the time.
this is a likely cause and one of the easiest to check.
There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.
