bought a safari today, my first.

Post by muskie »

well after some consideration and a bit of research i decided to have a look for a safari swb, dont need the lwb it wouldnt be practical for us. havnt got lots of cash so thought i would trade my daily driver for work, looked at some nice expensive ones 10-12 grand and after being offered ridiculas money for my mondeo (2k for a very tidy 1999!!!) was driving home a bit peeeed off... when i drove past a dealer with a black and silver 1988, 4.2 swb safari, manual trans, big wheels and worn mud terrains, cb radio+aerial, pto driven winch, new cd player, and new springs allround,( not sure if its 2'' lift or just new standards ) brand new wof. took it out for a long drive to check temp etc and try all gears and the usual which all seemed excellent. bodywork is very straight but paint is looking tired and scruffy in places but no major rust, plastic arches are a bit lose and need reattaching in places, interior, drivers seat worn but it has done 198,000 kms..... after some haggling over the price i drove off with the truck for $4,500.. i was happy with that but does it sound a good deal to you nissan regulars.. oh yeah and i kept the mondeo for work and back as it really wasnt worth getting rid of for 2k, at least the nissan can be off the road for upgrade should it need to be....

Welcome to the Safari Family 8)
As long as you are happy, then it was a good deal, and at that price, you have money to spare for new tyres, bigger lift, turbo, bullbars, extra set of tyres etc etc etc etc etc

mmm turboing sounds good but i have the usual issues to sort first 2'' lift, snorkel, general service etc so the turbo is something for a year or so..
