Ashley george 21/10/07

Post by PR »

Annyone keen :?: Plan of attack is:-

Heading down the Ashley from the Gorge campgound at about 1000 on Sunday 21/10/07.

Head down river until we hit the north bank track after the Okuku and then play in the mud.(if there is any left)

OR

Head down river until we hit the Okuku and head out from there getting toymotors stuck in the process  .

Tow Hooks a must :!: :!: :!:
Should be able to get through without snorkle(if you take it easy) :!:
AT tyres minimmum :!:
PRS is a must so we all have contact ( I have a spare one if needed )

Directions to camp ground=

From Chch head out along the Northern motorway, and take the first off ramp to the left after the Waimak. This is Tram Road.
Drive Tram road (all the way to the endof it) until you get to Oxford Rd at an area called Bennetts. Turn left here.A short distance along Oxford Road is the Town Oxford. Turn Right at the first intersection in Oxford onto Ashley GorgeRoad.
About 5 minutes drive is the Gorge campground on the left, just before the Ashley river.

Christchurch people can meet at the Belfast pub between 0900 -0915. Leaving there dead on 0915 if anyone nterested. Otherwise meet at the campground down by the river for a 1015 departure. I will not wait past 1015

I'm in. That is next month right PR. I would advise snorkels as there will be spring snow melt still around then, but then it's your trip.

Yeah next month  I think we should be right with the snorkles but I will have a look at the river flow a couple days prior so it might change to snorkles only

I feel a challenge from the defending champ from last round! Although the true winner was the untowed zook.

I have the 33's now, fitting them on Sunday, will have to get the tyre pressures a tad lower too. LSD should be here soon too. Then I got to get around to fitting that and also getting a more efficient hook setup on rear etc.

Still don't have 35's, twin lockers, and full monkey bars...

Need to get my own PRS too (thanks for the loan last time!)
Sold my 1985, BJ74 MWB Landcruiser, rear locker, 33" MTs, snorkel, PTO winch, solid bars all round, spotties, AM CB etc.
Now just a 1994, 1kz Surf, pretty standard.

I hope I can make it, I will see. Should I attach the tow rope to the front now?

I dont mind where we come out, are we allowed to try push upstream into the gorge or is it only the downstream run? I will follow whatever way we end up going (possibly on the end of a rope again)

Need some money to spend on the truck :( to let it go further, but all in time I guess.

We can keep a rope between us Steve - if we stick together we should be invincible and can round the others up at times :) 8wd and all that should be good.

You can if you want but from what Rockhound has said in the past there are biggggggggggggggg rocks and very deeppppppppppppp water

Rockhound wrote:Hey Al, if you want to make it really interesting, go up stream from the camping ground, into the gorge. For first time in, you could probably expect to take all day to cover about 3-4 kms
Snorkels, good ground clearance and at least 1 traction aid required. But and awesome trip.

Tis a good beginers trip for those who want to start the step up from mudplugging.

I stand by what I said earlier. You will need at least 1 traction aid and good snorkels.
You will also need the ability to not break down and cry if you cop a ding or 3.
Bloody good trip though.
