The Factory diesel diffs (Vitara/Grand Vitara) are the strongest but these are rare as hens teeth as they are Steel rather than Alloy  , shoving an ARB locker stregthens things a bit I hear.... depends what yoo are starting with and whats powering it and tyre size and how you drive it as well.mal

The rear Vitara diffs in the suzi world are
compared to the ford 9" for suzukis.

In the states they put the vitara nuggets in to
the 413/sammies.

XL 7 rear diff is by far the strongest and also has the largest / strongest axles but it is not mentioned above :?:

Dont know for certain only what I have read, however in 5 years of rallying a SJ413 I never had a diff problem as far as breakages went but I did bend 3 hosuings. My Jimny spat the front diff earlier this year but we put that down to the fact that it had been written off twice by the insurance company before I got it both times for frontal and suspension damage, and the diff had never been replaced. It is now on its second season of rallying

As for "best diff" - I would rate the SJ series as the best for the following reasons:
All model rears are 4 pinion and very strong ( early fronts are also 4 pinion but 22 spline ). The rear axles are 26 spline ( same spline as Vitaras ) and very strong. They take some real punishment and hold up well to tyres up to 35". They have a wide range of gearing choices from 3.73, 3.9, 4.6, 5.1 and aftermarket 5.3 & 5.8 ratois NB: some of these ratios can be obtained from Vitara front diffs'.
They are a seperate third so user friendly when it comes to r&p set up.

Only downside seems to be that the 5.1 and most likely the 5.3 & 5.8 ratios do not last long in the rear of a SJ when you go hard but that is about the only thing.

My 2c

The Vitara's weak point is the alloy front diff' housing. The XL7 and the Grand-Vitara 2.5 V6 manual (not auto) have a steel front diff' housing which makes them pretty much bullet-proof. Unfortunately this is fairly well-known now so most people want moonbeams for the steel fronts.

Yeah Spanky, just like that!

What diff's out of the states would you recommend? I probably can't afford one yet, but I can put it on the wish-list.
