Easter trip nearly a roll over!!!

Post by ribbittuk »

After a Easter weekend off roading up the Waimak and Ashley I am happy with the outcome of my truck, :thumleft: no vibrations, and more ground clearance after Supralux did the lift. Handled really well. Definately the way to go. :P. Just got to look into undoing the sway bars now!! nearly had a roll over on the weekend, (its a bugger when the hill gives way) thankfully after kids and passengers got out through window and adults sat on side to keep upright until a friends Rocky held it inplace  Sent some bikers to find help and thankfully a nice man in a Prado dragged me out. Maybe with more articulation I would of been ok? :?: also need to look at body lift, does it need a cert? will put some piccies in my album.

Lucky escape then !

Good to hear the suspension lift went well, am thinking about doing that to our truck. What was the amount of lift (the photos look good) that was done ?

I cannot wait to see pics. Sounds like you had fun and indeed lucky escape.

Good to know you have no vibrations from suspension lift.
What did you use for lift?
Any particular brand of shocks and spring?
Did you install any spacers or adjustment for mount?

The springs are 50mm raised coils - Maxitrac brand. The shocks in the front are standard Maxitrac and were slightly longer than stock from memory. They replaced the KYB factory electric adjustable ones.

The fun was in the back - there is no listing in the Maxitrac models for a pin/eye rear shock so the solution was a slightly modified Hilux front shock, which has more travel than a standard Paj rear, and almost the same mounting - just a little packing in the bottom mount to make it the same width, then bolt on as normal at the top... I suspect the non-adjustable shock models have eye/eye as thats the only listing I had.

...which is where the fun began - as I'm sure Debs will attest to since she sat outside reading her book while I left small DNA samples all over the suspension and sat telling god all about where Mitsi could stick there clever system for attaching shocks. It was from trying to get the last nut off the last shock  bloody stupid Mitsi design... Spanners, crowbars, hammers, air hammers, cold chisels and finally a grinder... mutter mutter...

Anyway, all in and cranked up and on new 32" muddies the truck actually looked really good (for a Mitsi :P) when it left - I'm off to check the photos myself to see what happened to it...

Body lift does need cert, provided its a "kit" to suit your vehicle and installed propery it should be a breeze. When i had my Rangie certified (body lift kit manufacter not a commercial kit) i said it was a rangie spare kit form Oz, certified no probs!!
