33x12.5x15 What Rim Size ??

Post by MAHINDRACJ4A »

Hey

Was Thinking today as i'll need new tyres about going to 33's so what size rim width would i need ?

i think the rims i have now are either 7" or 8" wide

also the bigger size would give me more speed at a lower rpm

And anyone know if these will fit my mahindra with out a lift ? i dont plan on going hardout offroading maybe just a shiny trip but thats about it

HI there,

Most 4WDer's put 33's on 8 inch rims but I think 10 inch is recommended. They do tend to get more crap in between the rim & tyre with wider rims. If you were manily going to cruise and show it then go for some nice fat 10 inch rims.

When measuring your rims to see what they are, measure from where the bead sits not from outside to outside as this adds about 1 inxh to the overalll width.

I think you should get 33's on but not positive. It would certainly help your on road gearing considering factory is 600x16 which is about a 29'

used to run 10" rims with 33s, but beads kept popping and getting shit in them.

changed to 8" rims and had less problems as they sit on there tighter.

now have beadlocks, so no probs at all now.

I would go with the 8" rims, and with that pcd you can find some sexy alloys too.

Running 33x12.5s on 10 inch rim means a lot of sidewall is exposed. Run them on 8s.

Was speaking to a tyre shop recently. He suggested 7 or 8 inch. The wider you go the more likely you are to pop off the rim, but also the more tread it allows to lay on the road. I have 8" and they fit and run well so far.
Sold my 1985, BJ74 MWB Landcruiser, rear locker, 33" MTs, snorkel, PTO winch, solid bars all round, spotties, AM CB etc.
Now just a 1994, 1kz Surf, pretty standard.

I'd run 33/12.5 inch tyres on 8 inch rims, unless you need to be on a specified rim width for cert. Most tyre manufacturers will recommend a rim size of 10 inches.
Hankook recommend 8-10 inch rims for their 33/12.5/15 tyres.

8" rims are pretty good for 33", if you go wider they look cool but pop the beads a hell of a lot easier offroad. i run 35" as road tyres on 8" rims and are nice on the road without 2 much sway ( thats my 2 cents worth anyway)

tyre popping off shouldnt be too much of a problem, look at all the drifters who run hard out streched out tyres, plus im not going to do offroad much maybe a shiny trip but thats all, and on road its not going to be driven much either

Id of thought the width of the tyre ie 10.5 or 11.5 or 12.5 would what determines the rim width...i cant see why a larger diameter ie 31,33,35 etc makes a difference.

Another option is to keep your rims and use 33/10.5/15 tyres.
