dif breathers

Post by chops »

Hi all Im looking at a new truck and a jeep wrangler is high on the list as they look cool 8) and there is alot of mods for them but the one I have been looking at has been in many rivers over the difs and has no breather extentions so i was hopping that some one could tell me if water in the diffs is that bad and how much it might cost to fix if the water has got into them :?

So long as the water hasn't sat in the diffs for long enough for it to start rusting then it should be fine, if in doubt change the diff oils and always check them after having been in deep water.
Don't forget the gearbox and transfer box - they can get water in them too.
before you get it, why not take the filler bung out, dip a piece of wire in the diff oil and pull it out to see what colour it is.
To extend diff breathers is easy, just get some small diameter hose from a hardware store and run them somewhere high, under the bonnet for example.
SWB V6 Paj with one or two mods ;)
