Toyota LJ78 Check Engine Light

Post by gene45 »

Does anyone know how to scan the computer in an LJ78 to see what the check engine light tells me?

Thanks

Sorry to sound blunt but have you looked under and bonnet and checked the fluid levels? Also did the light come on while the engine was running or while you were trying to start it?

All fluid levels up.

Engine compression is all within specs and injectors have been serviced.
They tell me it is not possible to have an improperly bled injector.

The light comes on at an idle, after it is warm and still running. It goes out when the engine is revved a little, say over 1500 rpm.

The history is that the head was replaced with a 3L head. The original shop did not get the timing right so it was barely running. A second shop put the belt on again to make it run (more or less) correctly.

There is a certain roughness to the engine that is noticeable at some speeds.

COuld be timing but what is the oil pressure like as could be have low oil pressure when idiling, to low that the ECU is spitting out errors. Id probably take it to a mechanic if you are not sure.

What model engine? I'll see what I can dig up... you'll need toshort two pins in the data link connector and count the flashes of the check light... need the engine model so I can see if I have the error code list...

According to our workshop, the most common fault causing a generic engine-check light seems to be an O2 sensor. Unfortunately I don't know how to test it, or rectify it.

Check Engine Light

Reply to Bill Walker..

The Engine is an 2L-TE.

I'm also interested in a proper manual for this vehicle if you know where to find one. On-line would be good.

Thanks for any info...

toymota thats stock standard.

This doesn't have an oxygen sensor as it's a diesel.

The Surf site will be the best source of info about the 2L-TE in your Cruiser.
