What's the story with getting bull bars fitted to our Hilux Surf when we've got airbags?
One guy here in CHCH said the ARB ones are pretty much the same as the standard, although have been tested more and so are much mroe expensive!!! Not really that fussed about which brand, just want styley lookin ones!
We are off to OZ soon, so gonna buy some over there but not sure of NZ safety standards, compliance etc.
Anyone got any advice or point us in the right direction?

Try this:http://www.landtransport.govt.nz/factsheets/22.html.

After Oct 2003 it will be illegal to fit bullbars to class MC vehicles manufactured after Oct 2003 unless they have been approved and tested for air bag compatability.

Hey guys ive been wondering about airbags and bullbars allso, Ive got a swb 96 prado and are worried that the airbags might go off if i hit anything while offroading, ive heard from others thay just pull the airbag fuse while offroad but the Toyotas dont have fuses they have a computer for the airbags with a main yellow plug leading into the plug does anyone know if i can pull this plug without upsetting any thing with the airbag system the simply plug back in once im back on the road.?

Cheers guys and im trying to workout how to upload some pics can anyone help me out there.?

have a look at the ARB ones, they do airbag compatible ones, avoid the alloy ones if you can, and yes you can get winch bars for them.

Hey thanks for all the advice guys, I appreciate it! It looks like we'll have to spend the extra cash for the airbag compatible version - it pays to be safe I guess!
The surf is 1996, so we should be sweet fitting the bars on? and complying with the 2003 MC class regs.
Anyone have an opinon on the OZ made Ironman bullbars?
