Offroad-Express

are terranos any good?
hope i dont ofend anyone by asking
but im gonna trade in on some thing new. i currently own a bighorn (standard) and ive had enough of its dramas, one after the other.
i want some thing reliable and semi economical (not too fussy, but not a v8)
and easy to do minor mods, big wheels and that sort of thing. i think a safari would be to much for what i need in terms of size and running cost so considering the terano. are they a good wagon offroad and tough enough to chuck around a bit?
any advice?

i have owned 3 bighorns, 88, 93 and a 99irmscher petrol, i loved them all and the only problem i had was diesel pump seal on the 88. the day i bought my old 88 safari i had planned on paying up to $10,000 for a terrano, i test drove a 96 3.2 diesel and a 98 2.7 and without doubt the 3.2 is so much gruntier. having said that, on the same day i found a tired looking safari for less than half the price i wanted to pay for a new car, so i test drove it and then realised why so many people love them, so i bought it as a kind of offroad project, and kept my car i was using as my daily driver.

however my only experience offroad in a terrano was in a friends, a 94 2.7 in standard trim, it had semi mud tyres, i was amazed how capable a standard truck really is a truelly capable truck.. buy with confidence, i am sure other people on here will have more input

I used my Terrano for off road, I will admit there not bad in the mud and as a overall 4wd I'd give them a 6 out of 10, But like Muskie, I was bitten by the Safari bug , Once you have driven one, like me you will sell your terrano.

These days you pick up a safari cheap , under 5 grand in good condition I got mine for 3 and a half and it was very tidy

Terrano's/Pathfinders/Mistrals have a hidden rust problem in the rear seat mounts, if you are looking at one check this area carefully, pull up carpet if you have to
