1988 Safari GQ Brake Warning Light Problem Resolution

Post by kiwiphilip »

Hi

Just thought I would post my experience with resolving a 1988 Safari GQ Brake Warning Light that stayed on even though the handbrake was off.

I found out that the warning light is actually conected to three sensors:

1. The handbrake
2. The master cylinder
3. A vacum sensing unit that attaches to the vacum pump on the back of the alternator.

It was the latter that was the problem as the rubber tube connecting the sensor and the pump had split causing the sensor to think the vacum had failed.
