Pajero glow plug issue - help!

OK the wagon is a 4d56 1989 Pajero Exceed manual

I have a bit of an issue with the glow plugs, and starting

Normally you turn the key to 'on' and it clicks once while the glow plugs warm up, and then it clicks again 1.5 seconds laterand away you go, start her up.

But lately the clicks have been immediately after each other. clickclick in about a third of a second - nowhere near enough time to warm the glow plugs i'd imagine.

And then it has a hard time starting obviously because the plugs are cold.

*note* this problem only happens about 40% of the time, mainly when i turn it on once it's hot. But it also sometimes happens when it's stone cold in the morning.

Can anyone help diagnose the problem?

Possible scenarios:

- need new glow plugs
- wiring issue
- wet wiring (hasnt been in a river or anything)

Many thanks for your help

Danny

I'd suggest the glow plug relay. Its behind the passenger footwell. Have been known to be a bit dicky.

maybe talk to a mitsi dealer and they should be able to help as it'll be a common problem I'd guess

yup my guess would be the relay.

does your truck run the 6.2plugs? or the 12v plugs? if it is 12v then run a wire to the buzz bar and have it activated on a push switch in the cab..

if it is 6.2v then first thing i would be doing is testing the relay to see if thats ok and if it is then power it with constant power and put a push button in the dash and again hold it down for cold starts..

starting
