Vitara G16b Needs conversion any ideas???? Please "HELP

Hey Guy's.
I have just bought a 1997 Vitara 1600cc EFI with Auto with over drive.
The main reason I bought an 1600 auto was because she is mint and NZ new of course. But shes a damn Slug. I knew this already but didnt know whats the best conversion these vehicles.
I have put extractors on to replace the standard manifold, as I was told this is best for the engine and an over heating problem. But I need more Torque.
Anyone have any idea on a good conversion?
2000cc up... with 5 speed. Turbo/supercharger would also help knock the torque up.
Whats the Vitaras 2000cc V6 with manual like? Can this be installed directly into this vehicle??????
"PLEASE" can anyone point me in the right direction.........
I would spend around the $10,000 dollar mark for a good conversion.

You may have already done this... but just a suggestion try test driving another couple of auto vitara's to see if something is wrong with your one or if is all of them... cos the 92 1600 auto i used to have wasn't that bad
(even if you do it at a car yard pretending to buy one)

what are you after ? fuel econemy ? power ? 4cyl ? 6cyl ?
it just helps narrow down a engine

No I haven't done that one yet.

This vehicle has only done 84K k/m too. I can only get around 250km per tank as well. using 95 octane. so Im woundering if the compression is low. I will have to check.
Anyway it's a bit of a jump coming from a Lexus powered Surf. I sold my Surf because I thought it was thursty on fuel and because its too heavy for four wheel driving, but I tell you this little Vitara uses about the same if not more fuel.
I cant image Bigger wheels and four spotlights on the roof would create a huge amount of drag, enough to make this vehicle struggle on every hill.

But the fuel consumption is really quite dramatic.

Well this is why I am here.
I have no idea on what conversions that are available due to the TransferCase being one with the gearbox.

I would like a very economical vehicle, with around the 200hp-300hp mark. And as much Torque as the little thing could handle.
But I dont want to go blowing everything like Diffs/axles/CV's etc.....
Supercharged maybe.

And a drive in drive out deal would suit as restricted to time. i'm a NOW person. If I was to do it myself this would take to long.

Do you know someone with the experience???????

haha well iv hardly had experance with suzuki gear but been told they are pretty crap, with 200-300hp i would think u would break the drive train on ur zuki pretty fast:lol:
put some dana 44 axles under it or hilux, wack in a w56 gearbox & get a heavy duty drive shaft made

seriously if your after that kind of power alot of shit i would think would have to be done, but not impossible in my jeep im puting a 1g-gte engine 240+hp and iv been told by everyone i know that i'll most likely to brake the gearbox, drive shaft & maybe diffs if im not care full
and i have dana 44's diffs that are very strong

You'd be amazed at the difference oversized tyres make to a vehicles performance & economy. It's much bigger than you'd think to the point of being a gear lower.

on the road over sized tyres would give you more rolling surface so would help on road gearing

You will be able to bust the front diff with the power you have so anything else is over the top .
For a bit more power and fun look for a j20 motor out of a grand vitara , 2.0 ltr 4 cyl , I believe they bolt to the trany . Then play around with a supercharger , keeps it suzuki and if you get a 4age charger you can turn it off for some economy .
Then go looking for a front diff out of a diesel vitara or out of a xl7 , they are the same but made of steel not ali , thus a bit stronger .

The 2.0 v6 is a bit of a dog , and uses a fair bit of fuel .

Also I would say there is something wrong with your vitara , drive another one and if its better get it looked at .

Helps gearing only in the respect of lower engine rpm at a set speed but it'll be slower to accelerate, find hills you can't see and it'll sure use alot more petrol doing that same speed

Id go for the J20a as suggested by rotazuk. puts out the same amount of power as the Suzuki V6 (100kw or so) I did find a US link with somone doing this conversion to a Vitara but haven't found it again. It will bolt straight up to the 5spd transmission so may be same with the auto??

I can only get around 250km per tank as well.

My 02 G16B gets 10litres per 100km exactly round town etc its got a 56 lite tank

Do you know if the XL7's front Diff is the same as my G16B Vitara?
I mean the Ratio and does it just fit straight in??????

a example of how weak the diffs are, this is my 4th or 5th front diff

did this at ngaroma on sunday ,the pic on the labour week end thread is me trying to get up the track in 2wd
