What "YOU" recon, Turbo charge the G16B or Suzi's

Post by simo »

As you know Im trying to get more punch out of my 3door G16B Vitara.
What do you recon about adding a Turbo or Supercharger to the G16B 1600 16 valve EFI engine that already sits in my vehicle.
Does Suzuki's 2 litre V6 engine and gearbox fit directly into my 3dr 1996 Vitara.
Or would Turboing or supercharging the 2 litre V6 be a better option?????? :!:

Without being negative, from your other thread you said you had up to $10k too spend doing upgrade. What ever you do too engine you will still be left with a weak driveline. I may not of followed the other thread, but what is you primary use for the vehicle?? off road perfomance or off road??

Cheers dude.

Mainly 70% Road use.
I have only owned this vehicle for about 4 weeks and I have no, I mean no idea about Vitaras or Suzukis for that matter.
I hunt so get to do a bit of 4x4ing and am usually in the middle of nowhere so am wanting something very reliable.
I want to do lots of touring with a full vehicle and trailer too. plus to tow a boat. Hence needed Torque.

DUDE WHATS THE BEST GO?

Diffs/Drive lines/Axles?????

I need to find someone that can tell me the best set up for what I should do. From which engine/gearbox/differentials etc..........

This is why I have just written about just adding a Turbo to my exhisting engine.

"Do you recon even just adding a Turbo would put too much pressure on the driveline???

Um turbo and relyability, well on a decompressed engine and built to handle the extra heat then it will be relyable but it is an additional thing to maintain (turbo seals and bushes need replacing eventualy), mean's you use higher temp oils and puts more stress on the drive train.

Personaly (and nothing against the Suzuki) I would look at having a second vehicle like a FJ40 or even (cough) land rover as a bush truck the older the better as you can get cheap rego (classic status).

This way when seal's go, diff's leak, spring's sag, shocks get dented and sumps get dinged (or holed) you do not need it as a daily driver so repair in your own time or just top up the oils weld the sump etc.

Probibly not what you wanted to hear but getting more power out of anything increases the stress on the engine components, my race car I had loved cracking the head gasket, running High boost but it was a factory turbo decompressed further larger radiator larger intercooler water injection and running AV gas (to keep it cool) on a hot day or behind another car the temps rise and eventualy the gasket would go, I got really good at changing them and re doing the timing mine were copper and carbon fibre gaskets  so heated and press fitted, they came from Aussie and were not cheap.

I don't want to be negative because suzuki's are fantastic but every vechicle has there good and bad points, your suzuki has potential to be a great offroad truck and very capable but they aren't really known as great towing vechicles something big and heavy (80 series crusier) will cream all over them every day. you could throw thousands and thousands of dollars at it but realisticly it would be better to put the suzuki on the trailer and buy a towing vechicle, or buy something in between surf, safari, cruiser, terano... the list goes on all with up sides and down sides, but i don't want to discourage you because i'd love to see another cool build going on. but i'd be doing some serious thinking about what i was starting with and what i wanted to do in it, specially with your mention of 70 percent road driving and towing etc..
Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level then beat you with experiance!

my view would be to get a nice bigger tow truck, and then get a cheap toy to play offroad and then u don't have to worry about damaging your expensive daily driver/tow vehicle off road

The suzuki is a little too light really for your hunting intention's especially if you want relyability and it will cost a fortune in fuel too (small motor small car towing) You would be far better off looking at the VX (big car big motor built tough) or a Safa(*cough*)ri.

As a light weight 4wd they are perfect and with hundreds of extra rev's the light Zook can put a lot of things to shame but carrying gear they increase in weight to the point they can break and are slow on the up hills and around the road.

If you want to do the Suzuki then you will likley be up for an engine (you say you want road pace) swap some diff's from a Toyota Prado 2.4lt under it (good gear ratio's and standard track width) and possibly a locker or LSD (Traction so you can get in and out) all of this is not cheap so a deal on the cruiser would save a lot of money time and experimentation to get the nice spring rate and shocks and everything matched to perform daily driver duties with off road.

Oh but if you do mod the Zuk you need to post a build thread so we can help comment and make suggestions, also if/when things go wrong we have an idea of how it was built and what you are describing.
