feroza/rocky f300 mods

things that can be done to improve the vehicle are:
hilux shocks and or springs in the rear,
tweaked front torsion bars,
removed anti sway bar,
free flowing filter (K&N type) and snorkle
2inch preformance exhust system with extractors

all of these help this little truck get arround i know coz i've done them

did you get the hilux shocks and springs through a wrecker or buy new?

just got them off a wreaker ae and i miss quoted the previous post i only have hilux shocks in me feroza

its my rocky (f70-75) that has the springs.

i dont see why it wouldn't be possible to put hilux springs under the feroza though just would have to remove a few leaves to soften the ride up a bit

yeh it is a lot taller could almost be to tall now though i'll have to keep an eye out for some cheep hilux or safari diffs to put under it now

Did you manage to fit hilux springs under the Rocky? Front and back without any welding etc?

Im looking for a cheap way to replace the springs in my Rugger.

just fitted Hilux rear springs in Ferozaush, no probs in fitting, the springs are about 20mm longer than the standard ones, but thats taken up with the shakels anyway.

I did take two of the leafs out to soften it a bit (the factory springs on mine only had two) ... gave me about 45 mm of "real" lift (measured from the top of the rim to the underside of the flairs) as mine has IFS and torsion bars gaining two inches in the front is a lot easier

yeh i did just had to change the bushes. i also went hilux rear springs all round and removed 3 leaves, as well as doing that i made 3inch longer than standard hangers which has given me more articulation and a lift of 1.5 inch ontop of what the springs added. i also had to shorten the rear drive shaft as i kept the origonal pack centers but shouldn't be too hard to change to where they need to be.

if your wanting to keep it road legal do everything by the book if ya can. another option which would be just as cheap for you would be to get the springs reset and may be put more of an arch in them. and even take a couple of leaves out and replace with softer ones.

have a think on it anyways.

I was quoted $170 to get the springs reset with a 2" Lift from a local engineering firm in Whangarei ... would prob be around the same price most places but I had to remove them and fit them for that price .... I am going to get the factory ones that I took out reset at some time and replace the hilux ones currently in it as I think the original ones do have a slightly better on road ride than the Hilux ones in it now.

I have found some springs out of a LN61 hilux (rear) for sale.... would these fit my Daihatsu Feroza? what would be a good price for them 2nd hand?

since the factory ones can be reset for $150-170 odd i wouldnt pay any more than $100 a set for good ones, mine cost me a Firestone RMT tyre as a spare for a fellow club member. not sure what model he got the springs out of but it had springs front and rear (not up on my Toymotors :) ) mine had 4 leafs per spring and are 1145mm center bush to center bush if thats any help, you will have to change the toymotor bushes out as the center hole is larger than the diahatsu ones ... new ones cost me about $5 each from ripco.

what year hilus springs are best to use do u use surf or single cab or dbl cab springs thanks

Great to know this works now, lux springs. I've been wondering about this for my feroza. Done a few mods to it .

I've made / installed a snorkle , removed sway bar , only running 30x9.5 at the moment , 31's cum'n soon and couple of weeks ago gave feroza a 45mm body lift .
so with fitting lux springs it as easy as ; new bushes ? redrilling bolt hole in springs ? longer shocks ?
are there any other issues that need to be looked at apart from what i have mentioned ?

i never worried bout putting hilux springs under mine i just got the rears reset and more of an arch put in them, im running longer shocks in the rear as well and just got the front torsion bars cranked up 65mm to level the front with the rear.

keep the sway bar and all the bits as you'll need it come warrant time, the body lift will also have to be certified as well.

i would have done the body lift as well but cant warrant the cost and i only get a slight amount of rub in the front guards which getting them rolled would fix and thats with 31's,

can i suggest that you take the origonal tow hook off and throw it away get a couple of ones off a hilux, drill right through both sides of the chassis rails and using grade 8 or higher bolts (if you can find higher) bolt them in with those. place the hook inside the rail and pack out with washers or bits of flat steel. i did this after bending the factory hook to just passed 90degrees from straight

I have kept sway bar tho (found it not an issue for warrents been off for sum time and nothing been said). Only reason i did body lift was that i had read on a website that you needed to do this to fit 31's. Oh well might take them back out , knew it needed to be cert'd for body lift. Replacing tow hooks on front is another thing on the to do list. Reseting leaf springs where do ya go to see regarding this (suggestions please) ?

i been pulled up on not having a sway bar twice now for the warrant, doing the body lift only makes the vehicle more top heavy thats why i didnt bother with a body lift you'd almost run 32's but the truck wont have enough power to turn them properly, just take your truck into a suspension place they should know who would do it down there. up here in dunedin Brown and cope do the springs they only make and or reset them you'd have to take them off, they also do custom springs if you wanted a certain length etc.

one thing id be vary wary off if you go to hilux springs is the position of the rear diff in regards to the drive shaft. on the fez/rocky the spline that it slides on it is in the transfer case and if it was to pull out to far all the oil will drain out of the case and you could do some expensive damage.

I ran mine thru for a warrent a couple of weeks ago and the guy didnt even blink with the fact that the sway bar is missing, then again the guy that does my warrants is a 4x4 man himself .. so he would know "why" its off. :P and knows that even if he told me to put it back on ... it would be removed the minute i got home anyway.

I run 32" MT on my Feroza with no problem. I did a 2.5" body lift and a 1.5" suspension lift. This way I don't have to
crank my torsion bars alot. For the rear, I replaced the shackles with an extended one. I also place a spacer between the upper A arm to minimize camber problems. And I converted
it into a full time mini pickup. Here are some pictures of the pickup as taken 3 weeks ago while still undergoing a repainting job. I will post the latest one when I have the time to take new pictures.

how do you find the power drain with the 32''s and what vehicle did you take the back out of to seal the cab kind of thinking of doing something like that to mine.

and did you space the front diff down at all?

what part of the country do you hail from?

The power is still okay although I noticed that fuel consumption has gone up. The Feroza use to consume
8 kms/liter city driving, now it is down 6kms/liter.

I used the divider from the starex pro van. Here in the Philippines they sell vans without windows at the back specifically
for business delivery. Some owners convert these vans for passenger use and remove the divider between the front and the
back. This is what I used.

I do not understand your question about spacing the front differential down.

I come from the the Philippines. :) I have been searching for a front locker for my Feroza. I have 2 other offroaders a 70 series landcruiser and a toyota fortuner. Both of them have front and rear lockers. In more than 3 instances, I have found the lockers to be very useful and have help me in the trails. without the lockers I would have gotten stock. That is why I want to put lockers in my Feroza. I like the Feroza because it is very easy to manuever because of its size. it is very small and cute. I am seriously considering doing a Fozzy locker and If this damage my front differential then I will do Solid Axle Swap. There are many surplus Korando differentials here in the Philippines. I think they are Dana 44 differentials, but I dont know If there are available 5.2875 R&P gear ratio for the Dana 44.

How about your Hi-lux differential 2Roky? Did you have to regear it when you change your axles into a Hilux?

i havent change the drive chain in mine as yet i have how ever been looking into different posibilities as to what i can do to mine. im currently at university so money is tight but it gives me time to beable to explore different options of what i can do
