nissan pto winch question
i have never used the winch as i havnt had the vehicle long but i think there is problem.
i took the actutor cable off and freed it all up and lubed it, as it was seized. made sure the pto activation lever went in and out as it should and everything seems ok underneath and working. i can turn the drive shaft by hand and the drum rolls the cable in and out.
the problem i have is i cant free spool the cable off the drum, but the lock and unlock enguagement switch on the end is easy to move but drum is solid in lock or unlock position.
dont know how well i described that but basically i cant free spool the cable off.
do i have to start the truck or disenguage all gears etc.
unsure as i have never used a pto winch.
thanks

Assuming you've stripped the winch and its all mint inside......If the 8 bolts which attach it to the winch-bar are tightened unevenly, it gets out of square and binds up.
Loosen off the bolts untill it will freespools Then do them up 1 at a time until you work out which bolt makes it bind up. Back that 1 off so it freespools again.
A bit of Locktite on the offending bolt stops it from working its way out.

Lol Monstr, you'll need to buy more CV's rather than a winch wont ya?

Hi, don't know if this is obvious, but mine won't freespool out unless I drive it out at least a tiny bit first - just blipping the clutch will do. I just assumed they're all like that. It might be worth trying to drive yours out a bit and see if that helps. If they're not meant to need a "drive" to disengage the free-wheel hub thingy, does anyone know what might be wrong with mine?

Give the end cap a tap with rubbe mallet to rotate it on the housing a little. Use two flat screwdrivers, one from each side to lift the cap off the housing. The suction of the oil will want to hold it on, but with some encouragement, it will come off.
When reassembling it, cut yourself a new paper gasket, as you will probably damage the original one getting the cap off.

yep really sorry about that got told off by trade me for putting my contact details in, and also realised that the driveshaft which goes into the gearbox end had been cut off so in all honesty it was only the housing which was ok. didnt want to risk selling something incorrectly described. thats why it came in the back of my truck rather than fitted i assume.
