Just came across an article about an elderly man that drowned attempting to cross the Orari river in his 4wd -

No doubt the Canterbury guys will know more about this than I do but just thought I would post it up as a reminder to all be safe out there, as it can be a dangerous sport at times, especially if care is not taken around rivers.

Condolences to the family and anyone involved.

Mike

I agree thoughts with the family, it was the drivers mistake and a very high price to pay. He attempted to cross the river in the wrong place and it was too high, he wasn't washed down stream the whole 4wd was.

Mike, Al and others from this site run's a great training day, they will show you what to look for in choosing a river crossing, if anyone is new to 4wding and going on a trip ask questions if you are unsure we are always ready to stop and talk or talk you through gear selection etc on PRS.

The more you know the better you will be prepared when you lead a trip of your own, and the less likley you will be to make a mistake this costly, Rivers and rocks are fun but be careful out there.
