Toyota Blizzard info please.

Post by Bacon »

I am thinking of changing my current 4wd for a short wheel base and was wanting to know about the Toyota Blizzard, e.g. engine size are they any good off road or should I go for a FJ70?

Hi - I owned an '86 blizzard for several years. Let's just say I got really good at using the PTO winch on the front which was amazing. Tended to get cross-axeled and stuck easily but some new Kumho 834s did make a big difference. Motor is a 2LT - 2.4TD, a but of a slug even in this light truck, but when I put in a new 2.5inch exhaust the sound and difference in performance was surprising. Essentially a toyota motor, steering wheel, and everything else is daihatsu.

Yes the Blizzard and the Daihatsu Rugger are very similar. Ruggers are great vehicles - easy to work on and modify, plus they're cheap. The 2.8 turbo diesel would be a good choice - it's a pretty bullet proof motor. The articulation is a bit limited by the anti-swaybars, but they can be removed or simple disconnects can be made/purchased.

If you go for a 70 series you'll be getting bigger motor choices (size that is). In the end, price and availability will probably play a part in your decision, but a Blizzard, a Rugger or a 70 will be a great vehicle.

Happy hunting
Andrew
