Hilux Km's... What is too many?

Regarding the diesel engines, what are considered high KMs?
When do they generally need rebuilding/replacing?
How does this compare to petrol engines?
I realise diesel engines cost quite a bit more to fix/have work done here in Oz, is it the same in NZ?

hi, my 22r (2.4 petrol) has just done 310 thou & doesnt use oil between changes & has excellent compression .I have heard of others with much higher kms .

As far as 2.4 turbo (2L-T) engines go most ive seen last till about the 200,000k mark then fall to bits,
i think this is mostly due to the lack of proper regular servicing.
also the majority of diesel toyota's in NZ are jap imports when have already done 5 yrs on the same oil before arriving in the country.
my 1st surf had no1 rod bearing sitting in the sump and only 1 nut left on the cap. was a noisey we engine.
i got it cheep for perpose of a repower so it didnt matter.
all this said.
a well maintained 2.4 non turbo as long as its not abused will serve u well.

I've got a 2LT 2.4 turbo in my surf and it is about to roll over to 260k
They need looking after but as said if you care for them they will go for a loooong time
I am led to believe that the 2.8 non turbo is bullet proof and the 3 litre is nearly as good.
