Hows it going guys? - Just after your thoughts on the 2001 Toyota Hilux as the old man is looking at buying this:

To me it looks like a nice tidy truck and i haven't really heard anything bad about them but just thought I'd enquire.

Cheers

They are nice to drive and go really well with the 1KZ 3 litre turbo-diesel in them. It will be IFS tho... Still - with $24k for the truck and $5k for the SAS it's got to be a really good truck for under $30k :)

Looks like it might just be the 5L which goes as well as the 2.8 but uses more fuel.

The IFS isn't too bad but no where near as strong as the 2.8 it replaced and still come with Toyota's weak front diff.

Friend on a large station had to put twin ARB's to go where his 2.8 would go then broke the input flange off the front diff at basically an idle...

Cheers Steve - I cant help but imagine a Solid Axel in it either :) - but are you sure they are turbo? - I have a feeling they didn't go turbo until a few years later - I'm not entirely sure though.

Not bad the only thing is there is not mich storage in them when in town there is some behind the seats but long and thin otherwise you have the glovebox.

You can get external lockable boxes tho.

Also the IFS as pointed out or a locker up front

Now you mention it I'm not sure - but I think the one we had at a place I used to work was a NZ new 2001 and pretty sure that was a 3 litre turbo...

If its just the 5L motor then its still going to be nice, but probably not worth the $$$

Yeah it is still a little pricey - after doing a bit of sneaky research it turns out a local we know traded it in and they are only asking a couple of grand more than the trade in price - so i guess that's just how much they're worth.

They were available turbo but only in SR5 with the flared guards and double cab. A club friend was working for toyota at the time said they'd never come out with a turbo. about a month later Mazda/Ford came out with the turbo that hauled arse, didn't take long for toyo to get the turbo.

Ah, well that makes sense since the one we had there was a double cab and it had flared guards :)

$24k? Find something else I'd say... there must be better ways to spend money...
