I live in rotorua and ive had my truck for about 3 months now and have really only taken it out to the farm witch is not very extream but you have to start some where right?.
The reason why im hooked on offroading is because of my friend cee-jay and his step dad graham he owns the hall n ass nissan safari here in rotorua. the 1st and only time i went offroading with him was wen i was about 14 years old so last year any ways i loved it an now im here to day with a 86 surf so im happy:D.
I don't know any where to offroad so some pointers to where some places to go offroading is that would be nice and wen other people are going i would like to tag along if thats ok ..
so thats about it good enouth for you guys/girls?

best mod is to join a club.
Gives you the access to good spots, lots of advice, lots of laughs and a better apreciation of the finer points of the "sport".
As for the best mod to the truck...
How many arguments has that small question started?
I would suggest tyres first. A decent set of mud tyres not Highway terrain or all terrain (but that depends on your area of play) and unless you are made of money dont worry about those super shit kicking tyres (for now). This gives you IMHO the most important part of 4x4ing - traction from here you can add other traction aids but start at the bottom.
Next for me would be shocks. If the tyres are not riding the ground properly then you are loosing the benefit of those expensive tyres. The amount of movement in the shocks can limit articulation also. Being a f'flipper front' there isnt much you can do at that end but tweak the rear end to make up for it.
Another properly fitted tow hook at the back is another cheap mod that will become invaluable. Check the mounting of the current front one also for peice of mind.
Next on the wish list is a lift kit or a body lift to allow biger tyres later on and improve the aproach and departure angles.
With the first two you are all set for fun, just hook up a club and get dirty. The rest of your mods will become apparent as you reach the limits of your surf, but just get out there and drive it. Leave the technical tricks and traction aids for later on.
Get yourself a snatch strap, a small shovel and a fire extinguisher and you will be just about right.
Others will chip in with their advice.
Remeber though with questions like yours:
Opinions are like arseholes - Everyone has one!!
So you probably wont get the same bit of advice twice.
Now go get dirty

Welcome Jase.
A surf is a good starting point. Not too heavy. The rear can be improved by fitting safari/ patrol standard hight rear shocks. They are longer than the surf ones, so will improve the articulation with your lifted springs. And they are cheap as every one with a patrol lifts it so they put in longer shocks.... Actually I think I have a pair in the shed, You can have them if you like. I will be back in New Zealand Mid November, PM then and you can come and pick them up (I'm in Tauranga).
Cheers
Jason.
