on behalf of a friend,

does anyone know of someone in the auckland area of even the north island who can tune a 1UZ that has a megasquirt computer.

I have a mate doing the national trial series who has a shitty running V8 that no seems to be able to tune properly.

any assistance would be grateful.

cheers

Has he looked for a base tune from someone running one? There must be someone on the Megasquirt forums thats done a 1UZ and can provide a starting point... then you just need a laptop and time...

If you can't find anything I can probably put your mate in contact with a guy up there that would be able to do it - he's good but he's not cheap.

not sure what hes done really, I just thought I'd try to help him a bit after we spent 3 hours pissing about on the laptop the night before the trial.

I will tell him the net is his friend and that he would probably find a megasquirt forum or something quite easily.

Cheers Steve

There is a Megasquirt forum on their site from memory.... hang on I'll go look.

[insert pause here]

Yep, easy really....

http://www.megasquirt.org is the base site

and http://www.msefi.com/ is the forum...

What is he running now factory? Link? Wolf3d? or the Megasquirt? I wouldnt change to the megasquirt if you have something now the megasquirt is not easy to setup and you need to know more about it than the others it is worth the money getting it done once and right.

Cheaper than the time in replaceing a motor

hes running megasquirt.

a bit silly if you ask me. why bother putting a new computer in if you can't get anyone to tune it

he went to the trial and someone plugged in the laptop to play a bit and then lost all the settings, and the owner had left the CD with the base settings at home. although the base settings are crap and the motor runs like shit on those anyway.

I will just pass on the info and hope he gets it sorted properly this time

thanks again guys

There are a bunch of questions before anyhelp can be given , as you have figured . He possibly is running ms extra and there is a separate forum for that , this controls ignition . Depending on how he controls that he should be able to get a base map etc like steve said . Sounds like he has that already .

I know how to tune the megasquirt but never tuned a a car ignition wise from scratch .
Happy to go and have a look at whet hes got and where hes up to and point him in a few directions if hes in the auckland area .

He may well be onto it more than me thou . I only ever got me rangie up and running :) no ignition you see . Did get the nissan running but had real bad noise on the sensor wires , noice is interferance upsetting the readings .

Get him to give me a call if he wants 021-749-608

I don't think its that easy dude. If you have no idea about the megasquirt system then I doubt you could tune it properly.

Not everbody knows how to tune a link or other types of computer, and theres people that think they can tune it, but end up making it run worse. If it was mine, then I would rather find someone that has experience in that type of computer.

na, I think Terry and Howie got it fairly good and I haven't seen the scores but he was doing bloody well, maybe even top 10, maybe 5 from the scores that I was hearing towards the end of the day.

its still got flat spots that need ironing out, not too mention the bonnet that he now needs to iron out as well

he should of got it sorted after the welly trial, but I guess you just can't tell some people.
