86-surf diff breather project.

Post by 86-surf »

well so far i have done the rear but the front is a bit more harder then i thourt because the sump is in the way! and i cant get the blody thing into the hole. I havent started on the front yet because i cant get the thing into the hole to screw it in so the pipe caple tubey thingy will fit on top!

Heres some pics of the rear

I have a right angled fitting on my front IFS diff to allow it to clear properly.

I didn't bother with individual breather filters for each truck, I ran mine all back to the airbox and plumbed them in there.

You might want to secure that hose where it routes near the towbar a bit better as it looks like it could get caught easily.

Good work. A proper breather will stop the diff ingesting too much water.

Be wary of running diff breathers to the air box - the whole idea is to keep the water out of the diff - the airbox is generally in a vacuum state (worse on the engine side of the filter), which if you are fanging it through water could potentially end up sucking water past the seals...

And if you're on a budget for your mods then take the bling bling mini-pod-filters back and use the cash for something more useful :) They're pretty, but not really necessary.

haha iv had the old filter for about a year or so now its broken so i just glued the top back on and used it for this.

i was going to put the front diif breather into the engine airbox but then i thought to my self. nah cant be screwed drilling into the airbox! so im just going to get another $10 filter:D

Thanks for the feed back

Steve is right, you can't connect after the filter, it has to be before.

There is no massive need for a filter, more a waterfree source of air which a snorkel equipped airbox should be.
