threatening emails to members

To the so called ORE Old Boys:
Within the last two months two members have had anonymous emails of a threatening nature sent to them signed "ORE Old Boys". Who/whom ever you are, face up to your childess behaviour and explain yourselves as my next step is to initiate a complaint to the police to have it fully investigated. The consequences of this are endless, the most damaging would be that the server has a warrant served, it removed to a secure location and ORE would die big time, and quite frankly, if this is the behaviuor standard of its members, I no longer want to be apart of it and it would be a fitting end. I don't need ORE to go 4wheeling.

 Who ever recieved the second email dont let this wanker/s bully or intimadate you, keep your head up high and dont stop 4wding. I was in the same boat 2 months ago and yes it felt horrible, I wanted to sell my truck and not go 4wding ever again but its not worth giving some wanker/s the pleasure of knowing they pushed you out of this sport. Talking about it is the best thing apart from going out and having fun on the tracks to show those wanker/s that it hasn't affected you

If you do need to talk give me a call or send a txt and I will call you

unfortuantly it's very easy for any 14 year old tech savy pimple faced school kid to fake where and how an email is sent all it takes is some unguarded MX record out there that allows relaying and you could send an email from a server in china or India (hell even our dear old xtra allows relaying and you *could* send anonamous emails using their server) with absolutely no traceable footprint back to a New Zealand IP Address (which BTW is dead easy to "fake" using many of the free proxy servers out there on the www ... makes it difficult if not impossible for the police to trace ( if they could even be bothered) and even harder for joe blogs public to track...

theres always idiots that try and play these games in any forum (and i vist lots of different forums) normally I ignore crap like that and if they continue to try and send that sort of rubbish i just delete my email account ... because the first rule of any open public forum is NEVER EVER EVER use the email address suppiled by your ISP (unless you want to be spammed out of existance that is) always use a disposable one from hotmail or gmail etc for replies ... that way if things get all too much I can just get another one .. takes about 3 minutes to set up and no big deal to change :)

cheers meece *disclaimer* reason i know this stuff isbecuase my job is internet/network security.

I am not sure if starting a thread on this subject is the best way to deal with the problem.
By paying attention to this person who is sending these emails and making this publicly known you are probably playing right into their hands and giving them what they want - a result, i.e. people getting annoyed and this thread being started.
Best way to deal with these kinds of threats is keep them quiet, don't pay any attention to them, and most of all, don't make a big deal out if it.
If the person doing this gets no reaction for their efforts they will soon get bored with sending idle threats and move onto something more productive.
On the other hand if words turn into serious action then by all means get the police involved.

I agree with Al - this should not be tolerated at all.

I think AL has done the right thing the community will be behind him (I am) and the members of ORE, this could make the group or individual conform.

It also puts the individual on notice that HIS or their actions have consequences in NZ Law for the site and Personaly for Mike, WJW, AL and all these people that have made ORE what it was and has become.

With all this crap happening Mike could just pull the plug and say enough is enough, I wouldnt blame him the Year's he has put into this for a few to try destroy what it has become.

Keep doing what you think is best Mike, Al, and all the others. it would be a pity to loose what we have.

I feel it should be publucly talked about so anyone else getting these emails are aware and can just ignore them etc

But that is all the information we( who haven't recieved an email) have. Shouldn't this be sorted as to a plan of action before it is put into the public domain??

If they don't own up, I agree, get the police involved.

It seems that two people have received these emails. Perhaps there is more. If there is i would suggest that you let Al, Mike or WJW know.

I see this as making a mountain out of a molehill... no disrespect Paul and who ever else got an email, I appreciate it upset you and as I dont know the content of the email I can only form my opinion from what I've read here?

An emails only words and unless it contains something serious like childporn or some sort of genuine threat or risk or abuse of information or something like that it means nothing more than the verbal abuse between forum members we see in these threads from time to time.

Unless it contains the obove (then it should be treated confidentialy and handled appropriately) lets just keep moveing on

i agree its just words and unless he has your personal info he is no real threat

What makes a threat a threat or serious and real threat. Its harmless till someone acts on it.

I agree this kind of behaviour should not be tolerated. Life is complicated enough without having to deal with these kinds of idiots.
