Hay there,

From what I can remember CB's need to have a tuned length of cable from end of aeriel to the Unit to work properly. The length being the wavelength or something like that.

So you may need a proper cable. When you buy the cable they are already the correct length.

O and I could do with a speights about now but won't be up till mid next month!

Yeah that was the same for mine, I have a 3.6m cable that the radio is tuned for. Just go to dick smith and buy the cable which will have all the correct fittings on it, my cable was $30 with the base as well

TV coax coded RG59 is 75ohms not to be used for communications CB/PRS which is 52ohms coded RG58C/U.You can not measure the ohms unless you have complex measuring equipment.

If you go to dick smith dont be cheap get the stuff that cost more (RG-58 ) it is the best if you are going longer then optimon spec requires

The difference is the characteristic impedance, it needs to be the same on the aerial, cable and radio other part of the signal will bounce back at each point where the impedance changes which will give you a lot interference (same thing happens with your tv)
Id imagine TV coax would work but cause a lot of interference when transmitting and receiving. Of course cabling isnt that expensive so just go buy a proper one.

There was a poll recently and I believe the decision was to keep the avatars of non-adult theme. You might want to revisit that.
