Can someone help me with advise on the correct way to adjust the torsion bars on my 95 Terrano please.
I note at the end of them they have a long bolt with lock nuts on the end of it, do I simply release the locknuts and wind the bolt head?

Try the NPORA website in the states, they have everything on all modles of terranos/pathfinders. You will be amazed.

Yep, thats the one, undo the top lock nut, winde up the adjuster bolt.
I measure at the front and rear of the sill on both sides untill the vehicle is level.
You will need to get a wheel alignment afterwards.
It is normal for one torsion bar to need more adjusting than the other.

MAKE SURE you take the weight off the front wheels first - you can damage the thread winding them up with the full truck weight on them.

Put a jack under the crossmember between the two wheels and lift until both wheels are off the ground, thendo the winding. Using before-after measurememnts you should be able to tell how many turns to lift it a certain height so you don't need to keep putting it down all the time.

Just the safest way to do it...

Then you have to take it for a spin around the block before you measure the hight increase, as the torsion bars have a slow momory, so when you drop it back down, it will sit higher than usual.

I have never had a problem my self with adjusting them with the weight on.

Would be better to be cautious though!!!

Thanks for all the info guys, it is as I thought.
Have now raised the front to match the rear, although I think it may be a fraction high in the front, so will have to lower it a tad. Then I spose I will need to get the wheel alignment done again.
It will only have to be dropped about an inch tho.

On another note, since I raised it, I notice the engine is not running as smooth as it was previously, has rather an annoying viabration to it now, not just at low revs but a constant vibration.
Will clean the airfilter tomorrow to check thats not the source of it all, unifilter.

Am off to Akaroa for the weekend for some touring around the bays.

Won't be air filter, check engine and gear box mounts with a heal bar, jack or tyre lever.
