My front swaybar had slid to one side and was striking the inside guard, so moved it back and tightened. Noticed that on the other side the bracket that holds my steering damper was resting against the left spring, so, loosened it off, realigned and tightened the crap outa it (its gunna get welded), whilst doing so, i pulled the boot back off the damper..... and im sure its meant to be straight??????..... and that funny oily stuff wasnt there when i fitted it either.....

I did notice in your photos that you are not disconnected in the front. Put some decent discos (i.e. JKs) and see how beautifully it flexes.
Steering dampner is just a band aid, you don't really need it if every thing else is set-up correctly.
