Simex All Terrain

Post by muddymatt »

Hi all.
My discovery currently wears 235/70 Dunlop Grantrek AT-Rs fronts are stuffed and I would like to change all four for something with a bit more bite off road but as the wife drives it all week on road, I don't really want to go full MT pattern (bit scary in the wet!)

I have seen the Simex AT300s - has anyone run them and any feedback appreciated....

I know the Simex mud tyres are well liked and rated.

I have run BFG track-edges before and they were excellent for grip an tarmac and dirt but they are no longer available.

Can anyone recommend either a true 50/50 AT or a tame MT!!

Thanks,
Matt

Off the top of my head, two 'tame' M/Ts would be the

Kumho KL71 http://www.4wdbits.co.nz/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=926

Goodyear Wrangler MT/R

My two top picks too Smurf182 - I have m8's running both and they swear by them. Kumho KL71 clear the mud better.

have put a few people onto Pirelli Scorpion AT's and have heard good things about them. not the most agressive AT around but seem to work well. and they are good bang for your buck(cheap)

Thanks to all for the input! Seems like I now have to start narrowing down my choices!

Don't fancy the RMT's then - skippy in the wet is definately not what I want for the family shopping wagon!

Cooper discovers look similar to the Saveros. Are they noisy on the tar seal? - Not really much of an issue in a TDi Disco with a crap stereo!

The KL71's seem to be getting good ratings so maybe a set of them is on the cards.

Still no-one running the Simex's?? They are available in 245/70/16 for the Landie at $185 each too......

mmmm choices choices choices

Thanks again all

Ha Ha you couldn't be more wrong!!

I have been searching for these for months and would have loved to afforded the $300+ a tyre for BFG's.

My Disco is a 1994 NZ New Tdi with 318000 ks on. Cost me a very hard earned $5000 over a year ago. I chose it over a bighorn or pajero as I know landies and know how to check out a good one from the ususal crap.

I used to work for Toyota and while I do rate them - they are horrendously over priced and valued. Yes Hi-luxes are made of granite and last for ever but you try buying a cheap one. Most have been worked to death.

Cheers
