Did Summit say what courier company they used? eg. TNT, DHL, Fedex, UPS etc.... as that sounds like an airfreight price. If you get them sent LCL (less than a container load) via seafreight it should be less than what Summit are saying. Have you tried ringing any local importing brokers like Dean Freight or Schenkers or DHL Global Logistics etc... If your willing to wait a month for them then you'll save money on freight. Look under freight fowarders in the yellow pages and try them, price from Los Angeles to Auckland around US$130/M3, CABAF about US$20, then of course you have Port Charges Etc.....

For some odd reason I thought importing tyres was not allowed privately. Might have to re-check that.

You can import tyres, but they incur duties so as I understand it Customs will sting you once for the import duty, then again for GST, then you also have to pay a broker to do the paperwork... I'll put my hat in the ring with everyone else that says "buy local, its cheaper"

looks like the old BFG from years back,no side wall protection lugs.
35' mtr can be had for $320-330 each which would be a better tyre and cheaper, even if you only payed $300us for freight plus import, gst tax's.problem with tyres is they are both large(vol wise)and heavy which is how freight is calculated.best way is to put in container with a mates car or something like that.

I see you're in Morrinsville.

You need to contact a couple of guys in the South Waikato 4wd club, either Graeme Kingstone or I think a guy named Bryce who is importing these tyres already.

there are a few of the trials guys running these now, so you may be able to pick up some used ones at a reasonable price seeing as how you only want them for the road.
must be a decent wagon if you're going to run a 35" road tyre
80 Series on 35" creepies, manual with twin factory lockers.
