yep you are correct . (DO THIS TEST ) CONNECT A MULTIMETER TO THE BATTERY TERMINALS THEN START THE ENGINE WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING YOU SHOULD HAVE A READ OUT OF 13.5V_15.5V IF YOUR READ OUT IS BELOW THIS IT IS PROBABLY WORN BRUSHES . let me know how you get on as i do have lots of parts for toyota alt.. :)

Oh crap! Of course, sorry Rik, I should have figured that one straight away... I think you'll find it is an alternator fault. As Pinky said, check the voltage at the battery, it'll probably be around 11-12V which means no charge. Should be 13-14.5V...

The brushes are around $5-7 a set from most auto-sparkies, and can be changed in-situ... shoot down to the shed and I'll show you the easy way to do them if you like. This is the most likely problem with it... if its anything else you could be looking at an expensive repair, but check the brushes first.

Afternoon should be good. TXT before coming to make sure I am there... I have a couple of meters there so don't worry about testing it first, just go buy the bushes and come down. Maybe ask the autosparky when you buy them to have a quick look... he might find something, you never know. Doigs in Rangiora is a good stop for advice... (beside hammer hardware, just off the new roundabout near the new world)
